What is Rhodes like in July?
Average temperature and climate
You could hardly ask for a better climate for a summer holiday than Rhodes in July. Our average temperature is 27 degrees celsius, with an average of 12 hours of sun per day. The sea temperature is a blissful 25 degrees and there’s very little chance of rain.
It’s our second-hottest month of the year, with August seeing slightly higher average temperatures.
Is Rhodes busy in July?
Yes – along with August, July is the peak of Rhodes’ tourism season. We usually welcome around half a million visitors to the island in July as people come from all over the world to enjoy our climate, history and culture.
That means you may find queues for popular tourist attractions like the Palace of the Grand Master and Lindos Acropolis, and more competition for parking spaces and restaurant reservations. But it also makes for a buzzing atmosphere on the island, and as it’s peak season, all visitor-facing services will be open for business.

Ceremonies and traditions in Rhodes July 2026
July is a huge month for local traditions on our island, with several feasts in honour of saints. The first is the Feast of Agia Kyriaki, usually held around 6th-7th July. Mainly celebrated in the village of Kalathos, near Lindos on the east coast, this celebration involves a Holy Mass, dancing and traditional cuisine being enjoyed in the village square.
17th July sees the major Greek Orthodox festival of the Feast of Agia Marina. In Rhodes it’s celebrated most prominently in Paradisi, a village in the north-west of the island, with church services, processions, music and of course feasts.
Soon after, on the 20th July, we mark the Feast of Profitis Ilias, which is celebrated in Salakos, a village on the hills of Mount Profitis Ilias – a mountain in the centre-west of the island named after the saint.
A week later, around the 27th July, we celebrate the Feast of Agios Panteleimon, the healer saint. The Church of St Panteleimon in the village of Siana, hosts this celebration in the west of the island.
And last but not least – also in late July is the annual Apolakkia Watermelon Festival! Apolakkia is found in the south-west of the island and this event celebrates the harvest with traditional music and dancing – and of course, lots of tasty fresh watermelon.
Make the most of your Rhodes trip
As the official Visit Rhodes website says: “renting a car is highly recommended in Rhodes”, as it allows you to explore much more of the island than if you’re reliant on public transport.
Taxis can be expensive, too; taxis from Rhodes town to some of the attractions in the south of the island like Lindos or Prasonisi cost €65+ each way based on 2025 prices, so fares very quickly add up if you want to use taxis for day trips.
With beautiful beaches, hiking trails and other attractions to be found on all four coasts, hiring a car gives you much more flexibility. Don’t sweat on busy buses – travel in comfort on your own timetable.
At AutoRhodes we offer affordable, reliable car rental from Rhodes airport or pickup points across the island. No deposit required – see why we’re rated 4.8/5 by happy customers on Google reviews and book your Rhodes car hire today.
